Sept 09 IT'S SILVER AGAIN!
The Beautiful Scotland judges have awarded Culter a Silver in their Urban Community category, the second time we have received the accolade. The award was collected by our members Jean and Sandy Cook at a ceremony in the Beach Ballroom, attended by In Bloom groups from all over Scotland.
The judges praised our clean graffiti-free streets and the high level of community participation in our fundraising and community planting schemes. Their suggestions for further improvement? More planting of permanent (rather than annual) plants and shrubs, and a higher level of participation by businesses with their own frontages - ideas we will work on in the coming year!
July 09 PREPARATION FOR THE JUDGES
Will Culter win an award in this year's Beautiful Scotland competition? It's not all about community planting schemes - involvement by businesses and residents is essential. But Carol and Catherine of CIB are playing their part!

Planting Pride in the Community
The aim of Culter in Bloom is to improve the environment in Peterculter for everyone by planting flowers, bulbs and shrubs in public areas and encouraging and helping residents and local businesses to do the same on their property.
Coronation Road
Oct 08 Our community park has "matured" - some would say "aged" with luxuriant growth in the greenspace, which has been uncontrolled by mowing because of the council's recent policy of reducing maintenance costs. However they have at least continued to create and keep clear grass paths between the benches so that you can walk around the area in relative comfort. And - anothe rpiece of good news - safety rails on the steepeest parts of the made-up paths are to be installed within 2-3 months.
